How Does Microneedling Work?

Micro-needling creates micro channels which kick your cells into repair mode, without causing it any permanent damage. This process kickstarts the cellular regeneration in collagen, elastin and hyaluronic production and allows better penetration of cosmecuetical grade skin care products into the layers of the skin.

Microneedling harnesses the body's own healing response making it a completely natural treatment:

  • Elastin fibres are shortened straight after treatment making the skin feel tight
  • Collagen induction begins approximately 48 hours after treatment
  • Collagen type III is slowly replaced with Collagen type I over a 3-12 month period
  • The Collagen produced will last 2+ years

Benefits of Microneedling

  • Reduce Acne Scarring
  • Reduce signs of aging (fine lines/wrinkles/skin tone/texture)
  • Reduce stretch marks
  • Diminishment of large pores
  • Reduced sun damage and pigmentation
  • Diminished crow’s feet, and under-eye puffiness
  • Reduced acne breakouts
  • Diminished signs of rosacea
  • Increased penetration of skincare products
  • Improved health and function of skin cells
  • Improved circulation
  • Increased oxygenation

What Are Microchannels?

When microneedles create microchannels, it allows topically applied skin care (with it's active ingredients) to be fully absorbed by the skin. Without microneedling 7-10% products are absorbed but with microneedling 80%+ products are absorbed.

When Can I Expect Results and Long Do Microneedling Results Last?

On average, a series of three to five microneedling treatments, spaced 4-8 weeks apart, is recommended, and then maintenance treatment as needed. For more severe conditions addtional treatments are recommended. The 4 phaes of healing takes 28 days. Once your 5 treatments are complete, we recommend seasonal or twice yearly depending on age and damage on the skin.

Can I see optimal Results in One Session?

While it is possible to see some improvement after a single microneedling session, achieving optimal results typically require multple sessions. Just like how achieving a certain physic at the gym requires more than one workout, being consistent and mutlple sessions is required. Other factors that impact results is that everyone is uniqely different- in terms of healing, severity of condition and life style and practices that can impact the outcome.

Here are a few reasons why optimal results may not be achieved in just one session:

  • Collagen Production Takes Time: Collagen is a protien that provides structure and stregnth to the skin. After microneedling, it takes time or the body to produce new collagen and for the skin to remodel itself. This process usually occurs over several weeks to months. So multiple sessions are often required to see full benefits of increased collagen production.
  • Severity Of The Condition: Number of sessions needed can depend on the severity of the skin concern. IE. If you have deep acn scars or significant wrinkles, may require more sessions to see noticeable difference versus superfical concerns requring fewer sessions.
  • Individual Response to Treatment: Each person is unique and individual responses can vary. Factors such as age, skin type, overall health and genetics can influence how quickly and effectively the skin responds to treatment. Some people may require more sessions to achieved desired results, while others may see signifiant improvement after just a few sessions.
  • Interval Between Sessions: The timing and frequency of microneedling sessions also play a role. Its important to allow adequate heling period betweeen sessions to ensure the skin has enough time to recover and maximize the benefits of the treatment. We mostly recommended waiting 4-6 weeks between session, this may also vary depending on each persons circumstances.

How to Get the Best Results?

Ensuring the optimal health of your skin is crucial to minimize/avoid complications. During microneedling treatments, tiny "micro-channels" holes are created in the skin, and if unhealthy products are applied afterward, harmful ingredients can penetrate deeper layers, leading to infection or adverse reactions. At Dermaly, we prioritize your safety.

When you come in for a consultation, we ask you to bring all the products you use on your face and décolletage/skin. We carefully examine them for any unhealthy or dangerous ingredients and provide you with a list of ingredients to avoid. If your products aren't healthy, we won't proceed with the treatment and will recommend healthier alternatives for your skincare routine. Your well-being is our top priority.

Does Deeper Microneedling Depth Mean Better and Faster Results?

The depth of microneedling teatment depends on various factors, including certain skin conditions  and individual skin type. Although it maybe recommended for certain conditions such as acne scras and advance signs of aging. however it's improtant to note that deeper microneedling carries a higher risk of potential side effects and requires more downtime for recovery. Additionally, not all skin concerns requires deep microneelding. For milder conditions or sensitive skin types, a shallower depth may be more appropriate and still yield satisfactory results.

Ultimately, the depth of microneedling is determined by the qualified professional who can evaluate your skin condition and recommend the most suiatbel approach for your specific needs. We considor factures such as the:

-Nature and severity of the concern
-Skin type and sensitivity
-Desired outcome to determine the optimal depth of the microneedling treament

At Home Roller VS In Treatment Professional Microneedling Pen

A shallow epidermal skin roller for personal use at home has needles of just 0.2mm in length. The deeper microneedling pen has 0.5+mm UP to 2 mm long needles, specially designed for professional (that is ‘in clinic’) treatments.  The needle depth is determined by the trained professional.

In treatment Microneedling Pen targets deeper layers of the skin to trigger collagen induction while the at home rollers only reach the surface layers (up to 0.2mm) to cultivate the results and encourage deeper absorption of at home skincare.

Results best achieved by both personal and professional treatments and using them strategically to compliment each other can make the benefits cumulative for both the skin’s appearance and long-term cellular function.

Client Approach- Personal Care (if using roller at home)

  • Needle Depth 0.2 mm
  • Stimulates at the epidermal level
  • Supports collagen formation, increase cell communication, increases topical nutrition of skin care active ingredients for improved skin function
  • Increases skin care product absorption up to 2 hours post treatment
  • Use between once and several times per week

In general, the shorter the needles, the more tolerated the treatment will be. Use a personal skin roller for skin maintenance and to complement your clinic treatments.

Dermaly Approach- In Treatment

  • Stimulates at the dermal level, 05mm to 2 mm
  • Triggers collagen production-collagen produced for up to 2 years and can last up to 7 years
  • Increases skin care absorption up to 8 hours post treatment
  • Treatments through out the year keep collagen production up and optimal to counteract natural destruction
  • Incorporate Oxygen Infusion, Ice Globe Therapy and specialized serums application

Needles shorter than those on a professional skin microneedling can’t trigger the biological processes that induce collagen. That’s why professional treatment is vital if your goal is to improve acne-scarring, fine lines or stretch marks – for results beyond those that can be achieved at home.

How Often Are We To Get Micro Needling Done?

For correction: To jumpstart results, a series of 5-6 treatments spaced 4-8 weeks apart works well when initially beginning a microneedling treatments and then moving to the treatment the maintance (seen below). Additional treatments maybe required depending on the severity of the condition.

For Maintenace after correction:

: 2x per year for prevention of collagen loss
30-45 YEARS: 4x per year for maintnenance of collagen production
45+ YEARS: 4-6x per year to supplement collagen production

What To Expect Post Treatment?

RIGHT AFTER: Edema, erythema and mild swelling (the degree depends on each person). Skin will feel tighter, firmer and immediatley looks more vibrant-fresh and dewy.

FIRST 1-2 HOURS: Edema, erythema and mild swelling starts to subside. Skin continues to look more firm, lifted and glowing. Appearance of fine lines and wrinkles will decrease.

DAY 1-3: Edema, erythema and mild swelling continues to subside
Your white blood cells remove damaged tissue triggering new skin regeneration and release of growth factors

DAY 3 -5: Increased exfoliation and dryness
Formation of new blood vessels to supply oxygen and nutrients, formation of new collagen fibers and new skin cells

DAY 5-20: Improvement in texture and tone
Continued rebuilding of new collagen, during this phase home rolling is recommended to stimulate additional growth factor

Days 20-28 DAYS TO 2 YEARS: Improvement in pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles and scars begin
The final phase in healing where collagen matures and is transformed into collagen type I.

What Products Are Recommended Post Treatment?

Working with the skin that is fully absorbant (exposed due to needles) is very different as we need to respect the skin when the surface barrier is wide open. Concentrations of active ingredients found in traditional skin care tend to be higher so the percentage of what gets applied can penetrate the skin.

Applying these same formulations to exposed skin (from microneedling) can be too strong causing irritation and sensitivity.

To avoid this, professional grade clean formulations are recommended which includes skin care products that are specifically formuated and tested for post care. Avoiding potentially toxic ingredients found in regular skin care/cosmectic products is strongly recommended.

What Makes Microneedling At Dermaly Different?

1) Our new Micro-Needling sessions begin with an Oxygen Infusion

Hydrating and feeding a blend of multivitamins, minerals and collagen-boosting nutrients to the skin helps to reduce sensitivity and prepares the skin to optimum condition. Proper skin preparation can significantly improve results, your quality of recovery and reduce the dryness that can accompany the recovery period.

Dry micro-needling is effective but accompanying the rolling procedure with serums can significantly improve the efficacy of the treatment. That’s why we team the skin needling procedure with our Oxygen Infusion loaded with vitamins, peptides and collagen boosting ingredients.

The result? A carefully designed treatment to give you the best results in every step of the process.
